As the capital of Goa, it manages to blend colonial houses and impressive churches in an unusual and uncrowded manner with a lovely beach. The wide boulevards, colourful houses, whitewashed churches and Portuguese street signs give Panjim a distinctly European flavour. Add some banana trees, auto rickshaws, strong sunshine and tropical rain and you have a city that’s more than a little exotic. Sadly, the city is often left out of travel itineraries, bypassed by people heading straight for the beach.
